Judge Upholds Ban on Same-sex Marriage in Louisiana

In the wake of the United States v. Windsor case where the Supreme Court struck down part of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) last year, there have been “21 consecutive federal court decisions finding that same-sex marriage bans were unconstitutional.”  Breaking with this trend, U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman upheld Louisiana’s ban on same-sex marriage.

19 states have legalized gay marriage. Many others have pending cases at different court levels (see the map above from dallasnews.com).  As the pundits have noted, it’s likely the Supreme Court will have the final say on this subject, possibly next term.
